You can save a lot of money if you know how to use Nokia E61/E51’s inherent SIP software to make VoIP calls. This is a step-by-step tutorial to configure Nokia E61 mobile handset to work with Vbuzzer service. It comprises of 4 major sections:
I. Disconnect WIFI Service
II. Configure NAT/Firewall Settings
III. Configure Vbuzzer Account
IV. Configure WLAN Settings
Nokia E61 and Nokia E51 are similar mobile handsets, so the same tutorial applies to both models.
Let’s begin…
I. Disconnect WIFI Service & Edit SIP Settings
When trying to edit Nokia E61 SIP settings and NAT settings, we can meet a message “In use, can not be edited”. To solve this problem, we first disconnect WIFI service and then edit the settings. Here’s how to disconnect WIFI:

Step3. Select the WLAN name in the WLAN list, for example My_wifi

Step4. Then go to Options -> Disconnect from service.

Step5. Edit SIP settings and NAT settings. Once we finish the edit, we go to the SIP setting to modify Registration from “When needed” to “Always on”. Then the SIP client registers on a SIP server.

II. Configure NAT/Firewall Settings
Because NAT/Firewall traversal settings are not visible on the Nokia E61 UI, we need to install a special application named SIP Voip Settings. We presume that we have set up a vbuzzer sip profile on our Nokia E61. This tutorial shows how to configure the NAT keep-alive settings.
Step1. Download the special application “SIP Voip Settings” to our PC
http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.nokia.com/id/d476061e-90ca-42e9-b3ea-1a852f3808ec/SIP_VoIP_Settings.html
Step2. Install the application on Nokia E61
First, we use Nokia CA-53 Connectivity Cable to connect our Nokia E61 to our PC.
Second,if we do not yet install PC Suite on our PC, we download and install PC Suite.

Install this special application by PC Suite
Nokia PC Suite -> File -> Install applications -> sipvoipsettings.SIS
Step3. After installing the application, we can go to the setting page
A. Select “Installation” in the main menu

Step4. We can set two NAT keep-alive parameters in the setting page.
UDP NAT Bind. Refresh: 40
CRLF refresh: On

III. Configure Vbuzzer Account onto SIP Client
This tutorial explains how to set a vBuzzer account on Nokia E61.
Step1. Check if the firmware of your Nokia E61 is the latest version
http://europe.nokia.com/link?cid=EDITORIAL_528996
- Dial *#0000# on your Nokia, you will get the version information of device software.
- It is known that only version v3.0633.09.04 support SIP service very well. If it is the latest version, please skip step2.
Step2. Update the firmware of your Nokia E61
- Download the Nokia Software Updater and install it on your PC.
http://europe.nokia.com/A4579163
- Use Nokia CA-53 Connectivity Cable to connect your Nokia E61 to your PC.
- Run Nokia Software Updater to update the device software to the latest version.
Step3. Set up the WLAN on your Nokia E61
Please refer to part IV of this tutorial.
Step4. Go to the SIP setting page
A. Select “Settings” in the main menu.

Default access point: My_wifi
Public user name: sip:vbuzzerusername@vbuzzer.com
Use compression: No
Registration: Always on
Use security: No
E61-SIP-sipsetting_page1.jpg
E61-SIP-sipsetting_page2.jpg
B. Do not set Proxy server. Leave each field of proxy server blank.
E61-SIP-sipsetting_sip_proxy.jpg
C. Set each field of Registrar server.

Step6. Set the Default call type is Internet.
A. Select “Settings” in the main menu
E61-SIP-mainmenu_setting.jpg
B. Select “Call” in the Settings menu
E61-SIP-setting_call.jpg

E61-SIP-call_internet_warn.jpg
-After you change the default call type, it will be Internet
E61-SIP-call_internet.jpg
Step7. So far, you can dial out by vBuzzer service and receive an incoming call within a certain time, like two minutes. You will find your E61 can not receive an incoming call. It is because your E61 does not keep alive with vBuzzer servers in the default setting. To solve this issue, please read the previous section II. Configure NAT/Firewall Settings.
Step8. After finishing the above steps, you can place outgoing calls and receive incoming calls without any problem. If you want to edit some fields of a SIP setting, you need to disconnect from service at first, see Section I. Disconnect WIFI Service.
IV. Configure WLAN
This tutorial explains how to set the WLAN on Nokia E61.
Step1. Go to the WLAN configuration page
A. Select “Settings” in the main menu.
